NYSACDL is a statewide organization of criminal defense lawyers which provides a support and information network for practitioners through its state and federal listservs, resources bank, and Atticus publication. Since 1998, NYSACDL has been an approved provider under the rules of the New York State Continuing Legal Education Board and presents CLE seminars specific to the practice of criminal defense throughout the state. Members receive discounted tuition to these seminars.

Your membership supports NYSACDL’s ongoing commitment to the criminal bar. Please enjoy these valuable membership benefits.

  • Resource Bank - NYSACDL maintains a brief and motion bank which includes example motions and briefs addressing issues which arise in all stages of the criminal proceeding from investigation through sentence and appeal. Example transcripts are also available.
  • Member Biographical information in our Member Profile - Members can now include brief biographical information (positions held, bar admissions, schools attended, honors or publications) in our online searchable Membership Directory. This directory is available to the general public and is referenced by those seeking counsel and assistance throughout the state.
  • Jack T. Litman Twelve Angry Men Scholarship - NYSACDL members in good standing are eligible to apply for the Jack T. Litman Twelve Angry Men scholarship to the National Criminal Defense College held annually in Macon, Georgia. The Scholarship is funded by monies raised by the Association’s production of Twelve Angry Men which was performed by Martin B. Adelman, William I. Aronwald, Robert Fogelnest, Lawrence S. Goldman, Jack Hoffinger, Michael Kennedy, the late Gerald Labush, the late Jack T. Litman, Robert Morvillo, Gustave Newman, Murray Richman and Luther C. Williams, Jr.
  • Prosecution and Judicial Complaint Center - NYSACDL is dedicated to “Promote the proper administration of criminal justice to protect individual rights and improve the criminal law, its practices and procedures and to enlighten the public as to the point of view of criminal defense lawyers and the issues in which they are concerned.”

In order to accomplish these goals, NYSACDL has established a Prosecution and Judicial Complaint Center (PJCC). The PJCC will receive and screen complaints or reports concerning prosecutors and judges and, where appropriate, will make referrals to a disciplinary authority for action. The existence of the PJCC will encourage the members of NYSACDL and others to report behaviors which are contrary to the interests of justice.

  • Lawyers Assistance Strike Force - Lawyers Assistance Strike Force offers immediate assistance to NYSACDL members who have been subpoenaed, threatened with contempt, threatened with sanctions, served by a motion to disqualify, or otherwise attacked in the course of providing zealous representation to a client.
  • Committee Membership - NYSACDL standing committees are chaired by members in good standing who are appointed by the President. Committee membership is a rewarding opportunity for members to network with colleagues throughout the state and to explore various issues in depth. Members are invited to join committees to further the important work of our association. If you are interested in joining a standing committee, please contact the committee chair or Executive Director Jennifer Van Ort at jlvanort@nysacdl.org or 518/443-2000 for more information.
